Ruth Cox Turner, 86, of Heritage Point, Morgantown, passed away Friday, July 30, 2010, at Monongalia General Hospital.Ruth was born in Chester, WV on May 24, 1924, the daughter of the late Cleatus Earl and Lilly Mae (Harvey) Cox.She was a graduate of Wells High School, Newell, WV. She received her BA in history from WVU and was the 11th woman to graduate from WVU School of Law. She practiced law from 1950-1974 and opened the first all woman law firm in West Virginia with Callie Tsapis. In 1951, she was the first elected woman prosecuting attorney in the state. She was active in politics and banking. After closing her law practice she began a 27 year career in real estate. This small list of accomplishments in no way begins to reflect the impact her knowledge, contributions and selfless service to her family, community and state had upon all her life touched. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob C. Turner and a brother, Glen Keith Cox. She is survived by her children Lori Cox Turner and companion, Steven, Jacob Craig Turner and wife, Anne and Kevin Dale Turner, 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, a brother, Norman Cox and wife Betty and a special friend in life, Patrick Farley of Near Meadow Bridge. Cremation services provided by Hastings Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at Schellsburg, PA cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
