Obituary of Christine Bane Kefferstan

Christine Bane Kefferstan, 63, of Morgantown passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Bloomington, IL on July 3, 1951, the daughter of Mary Kathryn (Isenmann) Bane and the late Wilbur Lloyd Bane. She was a longtime member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. Christine was a classical pianist, having performed all over the world, including Belize, London, Rio de Janeiro, Indonesia, Malaysia, Canada, as well as many venues in the United States. She was a tenured Professor of Music at WVU for 35 years. She was recognized by the WVU Division of Music and by the West Virginia Music Teachers Association for her excellence in teaching. An active member of Music Teachers National Association since 1982, Kefferstan served as WV State President, MTNA Eastern Division President, and member of both the MTNA National Foundation Board and the MTNA Board of Directors. In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband of 36 years Robert Kefferstan; son, Sean (Courtney) Kefferstan; daughter, Mary Kefferstan, and eight siblings and their spouses throughout Kentucky, Ohio and Illinois. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Mary Church, Star City, on Sunday, September 21st at 2:00pm with an additional service in Illinois at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Christine’s memory to the WVU Healthcare Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, 1 Medical Center Dr., Morgantown, WV 26505.
