Betty Alice Yost Wilson of Charleston died August 28 in Greenville, South Carolina. She was born in Fairview, West Virginia, on June 19, 1925, the sixth and youngest child of the late Frank Jorier Yost and Etta Alice Haught Yost. Betty was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished music and singing. She was valedictorian of her class at Fairview High School and attended business college before settling in Morgantown with her husband, John Calvin Wilson. Betty taught Sunday School to first graders for nearly two decades at Wesley United Methodist Church in Morgantown. She also worked at West Virginia University. She was cheerful and always interested in others, exhibited grace under pressure, had an infectious smile for most everyone, and delighted in adventures with her family. Her patriotic spirit shone through in all that she did. She has lived at Edgewood Summit in Charleston for the last 10 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years and four brothers. She is survived by her children: Stephanie Ann Evans (John) of Greenville, S.C.; Melanie Wilson Poston (Roger) of Charleston, S.C.; Tamara Wilson-Black (Mark) of Las Vegas, Nev.; John Calvin Wilson, Jr. (Sara) of Bradenton, Fla.; and Elizabeth Jill Wilson (Russell Isaacs) of Cottageville, W.Va.; three grandchildren: Jessica Lauren Renfroe (Chris) of Charlotte, N.C.; Kristen Meredith Poston of Charleston, S.C.; and Rachel Claire Poston of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Harriet Catherine Yost Brown of Hendersonville, N.C., and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Tuesday, September 1st from 6-8 PM. Visitation will continue at Wesley United Methodist Church, 503 N. High Street, Morgantown on Wednesday, September 2nd from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM. A committal service will be held at the West Virginia National Cemetery on Wednesday at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 503 N. High St., Morgantown, WV 26505, Union Mission, 107 Jefferson St., Fairmont, WV 26554 and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at www.aspca.org.
