Obituary of Lucille Virginia Newlon

Please share a memory of Lucille Virginia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lucille V. Forman Burkett Newlon, 105, of Morgantown went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her family and took her much anticipated flight to Heaven, to join with Roselyn and Evelyn and sing praises to Jesus for their wonderful time spent here on earth. She was born on October 10, 1910, in Herring, West Virginia, daughter of the late Jehugh Jay Forman and Lottie DeBerry Forman Taylor. Lucille was employed at the Morgan Shirt Factory in Morgantown and Union Wire Rope in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, quilting, and playing the piano for her many grandchildren. For 87 years her blessing was being an officer, leader, and mentor to so many people at the Sabraton Baptist Church. In 1927, Lucille married James Burkett (deceased) and then in 1950, married Thomas Gerald Newlon (also deceased). Although Lucille was not able to have children, she raised Roselyn Seals Newlon (deceased) and Terry Gerald Newlon from an early age. They were her heart and they continued to be loving, devoted children until the end of her amazing life; with Terry at her side she joyfully left this world. When she married Thomas Gerald (widowed and married to Evelyn Michaels Newlon she became step-mother to three sons and one daughter: Robert Newlon married to Roselyn Seals Newlon (both deceased), Donald Newlon married to Carolyn Orosz Newlon (deceased) Terry Newlon previously married to Sandra Anderson, and Geraldine Jackson married to Thomas Jackson (both deceased). From these four step-children, she was blessed with nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren. Lucille had six brothers and three sisters all deceased. Her sister Martha once mentioned, “For not ever having any children of your own, you certainly have a huge family.” Her family loved and adored her. Special thanks to Hospice and Lucille’s grandchildren for their loving devotion, generosity, and caregiving: Don and Sandy Phares, Penny and Gordon Shilling, DeeDee Newlon and Nancy and Rod Jackson. A grateful thanks to Lucille’s Church family who visited her throughout these many years. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Monday, May 23rd from 4-7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Sabraton Baptist Church, 1641 Sabraton Avenue, Morgantown on Tuesday, May 24th from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11a.m. with Pastor Scott Whetzel officiating. A private family interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Herring, Preston County, WV. Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, in Lucille’s memory to Sabraton Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1020 Dellslow, WV 26531; or Hospice 3596 Collins Ferry Road, Suite 250, Morgantown, WV 26505.
