Obituary of Robert Paul Sweet

Please share a memory of Robert Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert P. Sweet of Morgantown, WV, died on September 25, 2016, in much the same way he lived: quietly. He was born in Blue Earth, MN, on July 31, 1929, son of Clifford L. Sweet and Mildred (Heaton) Sweet. Bob’s family plan to travel back with him to Blue Earth so that he can be buried beside his beloved wife, Delores Ehrich Sweet, who preceded him in death, as did his parents and four of his siblings: Kathryn Sweet, Hazel Bowman, Maurice Sweet, and Dale Sweet. Bob and Delores married right out of high school and Bob left to serve the U.S. Army in Korea soon after. Upon his return, Bob worked as a machinist in Rockford, IL, and then got an engineering degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He and Delores returned to Minnesota to work and raise their family. During his career, Bob developed several patents for DB Enterprises in Red Wing, MN, and Cannon Equipment in Cannon Falls, MN. Bob was always willing to turn his engineer’s mind to anything mechanical, and he could fix just about anything. In retirement, Bob and Delores left Minnesota to be near their beloved grandchildren before making their final home in Morgantown in 2007. Bob became such a loyal WVU fan that we like to think of him continuing to watch (or watch over) the Mountaineers. Bob will be deeply missed by his son Timothy Sweet and his wife Laura Brady; his son Brian Sweet and his wife Laura; his beloved grandchildren Ian, Benjamin, Jessica, and John Sweet; Marian Larson, the sister he talked to every day, and her husband Ronald of Waukesha, WI; sister-in-law Violet Giardini, of Rockford, IL; and nieces Lynn (William) Goodoff and Gayle (William) Steltenpohl. The family would like to thank Visiting Homemakers for the help they provided Bob, as well as his neighbors for making him feel so welcome in Morgantown. The family will hold a private memorial. Inurnment will follow at a later date at the Blue Earth, MN, cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Robert Sweet’s name to Visiting Homemaker Service Inc., 382 Broadway Ave, Morgantown, WV 26505, the American Heart Association (https://donate.americanheart.org/), the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org/donate/), or a charity of your choice.
