Obituary of Rose Marie Sterling

Rose Marie Sellaro Sterling, 97, longtime resident of Greenmont, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 at her home with family by her bedside. Rose was born June 23, 1919 in Chaplin, WV to John and Angelina (Aloisio) Sellaro, and raised in Westover, WV. After losing her Mother at the age of 12, she and her siblings lived for a while in Wheeling at the Catholic Home for Children. She worked at Beaumont Glass as a decorator for many years, and at Rand's Drugs where she met her husband, Ralph Edward Sterling. They were married June 30, 1945 until his passing October 17, 1969. Rose was employed for 30 years at Thorofare Supermarket, until its closing in 1982, and was a 30+ year volunteer at Mon General Hospital where she brought joy to many. Her strong work ethic and commitment was an inspiration to all, and her beautiful smile just made you feel good! Rose was a member of St Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Family and friends were Rose's love and joy. Rose is survived by her daughter, Deborah Cagey & husband James of Loveland, OH and son, John D. (Doug) Sterling of Morgantown. Grandsons, Ryan Scott Sterling (Jodie) of Detroit, MI, and Mark Edward Sterling (Shannon) of Vacaville, CA. Great-granddaughters, Claudia and Lilah Sterling of Flanders, NJ, Shaunessey Linderman, and Kaitlyn Sterling of Vacaville, CA, and sister, Julia Angotti Root of Florida, along with many nieces and nephews that she loved so very much. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Rose Allevato Angotti Sellaro; sisters Constance Sellaro, Teresa Thomas, Josephine Peacher, Sophie Musick, Angeline Lash, Margaret Jane Crooks, Mary Brooks, Sophia Angotti Saluga, and Anne Angotti Brinegar, and brothers Pasquale (Patsy) Sellaro, Frank Sellaro, and Salvatore (Sam) Angotti. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Hospice Care/WV Caring, Reliable Stonerise at Home, & Visiting Homemaker Service, Inc. for their emotional support, companionship, & friendship as compassionate caregivers In honoring Rose's wishes, cremation will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home. Family & friends will be received Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, WV 26505. A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00pm with Sister Nancy White. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Gladesville Cemetery, Gladesville, WV.
