Elsie Jane Casteel of Morgantown, WV passed into eternal life Wednesday, May 11, 2017 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.

She was the daughter of the late Walter Lane and Carrie Llewellyn Holmes.  She lived all of her life in Morgantown; she grew up in the Seneca community.

Elsie Jane was a member of Suncrest United Methodist Church for over fifty years.  She was a former member of Spruce Street United Methodist Church; she served as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School leader.  She worked at the former Whiteside’s Department store in Morgantown where she was the buyer and supervisor for the women’s sportswear department.  She was a life member of the Auxiliary of Monongalia General Hospital.  She volunteered over 10,000 hours at the hospital.  She was a life member of the Service League of Morgantown.  Her favorite tasks with the League were working at the Old Stone House and serving as chair of the tea committee.  She was a Past Matron of Morgantown Chapter No. 35, Order of the Eastern Star and a past member of the Junior League of Morgantown.  Her special life project that was started by her husband and continued by her after his death in 1989 was honoring the widows of Joseph Summers Masonic Lodge No. 173.

Elsie Jane is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Dave Clarke and her son and daughter-in-law Harold  J. and Carol  Lininger Casteel; and three grandsons, Eric Casteel, Mark Casteel and David Clarke; and great grandchildren and two special nieces Sherall Benson and Connie Drvar.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Harold D. Casteel, and three brothers, Robert Holmes, Ralph Holmes, and Walter (Buzzie) Holmes.

The family would like to thank special friends, Dr. Kelley Solomon and Abbie Standley, for the love and support that they provided during Elsie Jane’s final months.

To honor Elsie Jane’s request, cremation will be arranged by Hastings Funeral Home.  Also at her request there will be no funeral service.
