Obituary of Robert Dwight Miller

Please share a memory of Robert Dwight to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert “Bobby /Poppy” Dwight Miller, Sr., 77, of Morgantown, WV, left his life here with us to join his “Mum” and “Yut-yuh” in love and peace on,  May 29, 2017, at Mapleshire Nursing Home, Morgantown, WV.

Robert, Sr. was born, March 28, 1940; he spent the majority of his childhood in Bruceton Mills WV and attended Romney School for the Deaf.  From there he obtained a job at WVU Hospital in the laundry department where he continued to work until his retirement.

Bobby never let his inability to hear hold him back and his work ethic was like no other.  He was very often referred to as “the work horse”. He walked to and from work every day and rarely ever missed a day.  He married Hilda Groves Miller and had 2 sons.  He loved his family and was very proud of his boys.  There was no one he wouldn’t help and he always took great joy in everyone else’s happiness.  There were many who could not understand his “language”, per say, but there was no mistaking his pride and joy in his sons, and later his grandchildren, making sure that anyone around knew exactly who they were to him.

After retiring, he spent his time with family and friends, always on the go, and always finding someone he knew just about everywhere he went.  He traveled the roads on his 4-wheeler where he lived, visiting his neighbors and family daily.  His most favorite thing to do, though, was going to Big Bear Lake Campgrounds, in Preston County, WV, with Robert, Jr. and his family.  Every Friday afternoon, there he would be, perched on that 4-wheeler, waiting for his son’s family to get home and pack to go!  He would spend countless hours sitting at the camp fire perfectly content and most times you would see him with a cup of “avah”, hot or cold, it didn’t matter.  The man absolutely loved his coffee and sweets.

His family will forever hold precious his excitement and joy to be with everyone he loved during the holidays and special events. Oh, my goodness, especially birthday’s and Christmas mornings!  He always was truly a kid at heart.  He never missed an occasion, not ever.

Bobby had many cousins who he grew up with like siblings.  We mention this because it has to be said at just how much he loved his entire family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Irene Dadich, who passed in 1997, and his grandmother, Faye Miller, of Bruceton Mills, WV, whom he also called, “Mum”, and his grandfather, Frank Miller, both having helped raise him as a child.

He is survived by his sons, Robert Dwight Miller, Jr., and wife, Victoria, of Morgantown, WV, and E. Clyde Miller, and wife Robin, of Morgantown, WV, and Dunedin, FL; grandsons: Mason, Caleb, and Austin Miller; and granddaughters: Tylon Stearns, and her husband, Craig and Shelby Walker.

Friends and family may join the family to honor Robert, Sr.’s life at, Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Friday, June 2, at 10AM until the time of funeral service at 11AM with Rev. Lynda Masters officiating.  Robert, Sr., will be buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, alongside his parents.
