Obituary of Mary Madeline Chipps

Mary Madeline Chipps, 91, of Kingwood Pike, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the Madison Nursing and Rehab Center.  She was born December 6, 1925 in Preston County, a daughter of the late John Edward and Edna Hovatter Jenkins.

She was a member of the Mt Pleasant United Methodist Church where she was the chairperson for the health and welfare, sang in the choir, called singers for gospel sings, and collected food for the Scotts Run Parish.  She was formerly a Nurses Aide with Mon General Hospital, Registered Home Health Aide, Sundale Nursing Home Aide, worked with the Monongalia  County School Board as a cook and maintenance person, served as a substitute teacher for exceptional children, and served as a housekeeper with WVU Towers and Hopemont Hospital.

She is survived by daughters, Marie Dalton and her husband Tyrone of Kingwood Pike, Louise McDonald and her husband Charles of Concord, NC, and Kathy Dalton and her husband Glenn of Kingwood Pike; a half brother, Robert Linton and wife, Mary, of Preston County; two sisters, Willa Turner of Reedsville and Norma Linton of Independence, sister-in-law Mary Linton of Preston County; eight grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Leon Chipps; step father, Carl Linton; daughter, Alma McMillen and her husband Wilbur; and two half brothers, Theodore and Denzil Linton.

The family would like to give a thank you to the staff of the Madison for all of their love and care.  They would like to especially thank Dr. Paine and Ben and Rhoda, Brenda, Sherry, Peggy, and Margaret who all took such special care of her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 2436 Kingwood Pike, Morgantown, WV  26508.

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Wednesday, November 29th from 4-8 PM and again on Thursday, November 30th from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM with Pastor Dan Agnew officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
