Agnes Johnston

Agnes Haney Johnston, of Grand Street, Morgantown, died peacefully in her sleep on December 20, 2012 surrounded by her loved ones. Born August 3, 1924, in Deming, N.M., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Anna Paul Haney of South Bend, IN. She attended St Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN, and West Virginia University. For many years she was employed in the Dean's Office at the College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University. She was crowned Ms. West Virginia Senior America in 1991 and was a finalist in the national pageant held that year in the String of Pearls Chorus Line. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John H. Johnston; and her son Christopher K. Johnston. Survivors include four sons - Brian, of Morgantown; Kieran and his wife Habibah, of Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia; Patrick of the Merchant Marine; Timothy and his wife Nathalie of Rennes, France; and two daughters, Ann Ragan and her husband William of Poca, W.V.; and Carole Rivera and her husband Hector, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and her daughter-in-law Christine Johnston of Fairfax, VA. Also surviving are five grandchildren and one grand daughter-in-law: Tyler and Katelyn Ragan, of Poca W.V.; and Adam and his wife, Ida Marlina, and Aida Johnston, of Shah Alam, Malaysia; and Alexander Johnston of Rennes, France. The wishes to send a special thanks to Morgantown Hospice. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Thursday, Dec. 27th from 6-8pm. A private funeral service for the immediate family will be held on Friday with Fr. Fred Byrne officiating. Interment will follow in East Oak Grove Cemetery.
