Angelo Petitto

March 4, 1941 — February 1, 2014

Angelo A. Petitto, son, brother, uncle and friend, was born in Clarksburg, WV, on March 4, 1941, to Angelo S. and Carolyn Arena Petitto. He died in Ft. Myers, Fl, Saturday, February 01, 2014. He was a resident of the Smithtown Community. Angelo was a 1959 graduate of St. Francis High School where he starred in football and was named the captain of the 1959 WV All State Football Team. He served in the US Army as a combat engineer in South Korea. Angelo was co-founder of Petitto Mine Equipment, Inc. a local mine equipment manufacturer. He shared in the development of the Petitto Mule, an internationally known longwall shield retriever sold worldwide and recognized by the US Department of Commerce and the WV State Development Authority. In addition to his achievements and success in the business world, Angelo lived by his parent's lifelong example of treasuring his family and their traditions. He will always provide his brother and sister and their family with stories and memories of happy holidays and time spent together. He is survived by his brother, James L. and sister-in-law, Carol Cordyack Petitto, his sister, Rose Virginia and brother-in-law, George W. Marshall. Also surviving are many nephews and nieces who lovingly called him, Uncle A. Michael and Brian Petitto. Jeffrey, Lydia, and Vera Marshall. Julie, Rick, and Alec Harris, Eliza and Max Roberson. Amy, Jason, Anna, Kate, and James Robbins. He is also survived by his friend and caregiver, Ray Hildreth. Family and friends will be received at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, One Guthrie Lane, Morgantown on Friday, Feb. 7 from 4-7 p.m. A Scriptural Wake service will be held at the church Friday at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, Feb. 8 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. with V. Rev. Mark G. Ward CP,VF as celebrant. Inurnment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Angelo's memory to Scotts Run Settlement House, 41 Ladybug Drive, Osage, WV 26543 or On Eagles Wings, Therapeutic Riding Center, P.O. Box 561, Morgantown, WV 26507.
