Anna Campbell

Anna Campbell, 94, a long time resident of Westover and well-known local artist, passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at Hospice Care in Elkins, WV.Anna was born in Schuykill County, PA on May 2, 1917, the oldest daughter of the late John and late Ann Maleska Gegyo of Sabraton. She was recognized for the various art media with which she worked. She had four single artist shows and won numerous awards in state juried shows at Sunrise, the Forest Festival in Elkins, Strawberry Festival in Buckhannon, Morgantown Exhibit 60, WV Federation of Womenâs Clubs at the Greenbriar, and various local shows. She taught adult classes in collage, acrylics, oil, watercolor, projects in the Morgantown area including the mural at the Mountaineer Mall. Anna attended West Virginia University and studied art education. She was a member of St. Maryâs Byzantine Catholic Church of Sabraton, the Morgantown Art Association, the Westover Senior Center, and the Westover Womenâs Club. She worked twenty years as a research technician in the WVU animal husbandry laboratory. She is survived by her son Richard Campbell and wife Barbara of Morgantown three sisters, Mrs. Richard F. (Mary) Kocher of Palmerton, PA, Mrs. C. Peter (Julie) Caravasos of Framingham, MA, and Mrs. Charles F. (Elizabeth) Madeira of Williamsport, PA three grandchildren, Scott Campbell and wife Audra of Wichita, KS, Brian Campbell of Greensburg, PA and Beth Campbell of Morgantown, and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William L. (Bill) Campbell, a brother John Gegyo, Jr., and a sister Helen Davis. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27. A Parastas service will be held in the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, to conclude visitation. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. â" 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, with Rev. Michael J. Huszti officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Westover.
