August John Lucci

June 22, 1929 — March 9, 2025

August J. (Augie) Lucci, 95, of Morgantown, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Augie was born June 22, 1929, in Morgantown, WV, a son of the late Attilio & Italia Lucci.

A devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Star City, Augie was deeply involved in his faith community. Over the years, he served as a member of the St. Mary Parish Pastoral Council, the Finance Council, and as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Sons and Daughters of Italy, and served in various leadership roles within the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Augie further contributed to his community through his work on the Board at Mon Health Medical Center and the Monongalia County Board of Health.

Augie was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae, on June 21, 1983. He is survived by his daughter, Beth Barill and her husband Terry; his grandson, Corey and his wife, Alyssa; and great grandsons, Kolten and Kaleb; and his grandson, Christian and his wife, Ashley.

He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Gibson of Hampton, VA and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Lucci as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Florence (Steve) Lorenze, Tresa (Oogie) Sordi, Ennis (John) DeMichele, Arlene (Carl) Jernejcic, Mickey (Wanda) Lucci, James (Mary) Lucci, Mary Ann (Hugo) Dalzot, Attilio (Maxine) Lucci, Abraham Lucci, and brother-in-law Charles N. Gibson and several nieces and nephews.

Augie dedicated nearly 50 years of his life to the shirt industry, beginning as a bundle boy at Morgan Shirt Company and working his way up to Director of Manufacturing. He also managed factories in Woodsfield, Ohio, Rural Retreat, Virginia, and Radford, Virginia. His only time away was serving in the US Army during the Korean War. Throughout his career, he collaborated with well-known designers such as Ralph Lauren, Joseph Abboud, and Lands' End. After Morgan Shirt closed, he continued working at Suburban Catering and Kegler's, where he maintained the strong work ethic that allowed him to remain independent.

A special thank you to the Lorenze family – Cindy, Jerry, and Gregg – for their love and care over the years. We also wish to express our gratitude to the staff at Stefano's, Kegler's, and Suburban Lanes, who became like family to him.

When Augie wasn't enjoying a meal with family, he could be found at Stefano's, Peking House, Tudor's, Eat 'n Park or Panera, where he became a familiar and beloved face. We are grateful to the staff at these restaurants for their kindness and care and to all the friends who looked out for him especially his "Panera family of friends".

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to WVU Hospice, particularly Laura, for their exceptional care during his final months.

Friends and family will be received at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 3346 University Ave, Morgantown, on Thursday, March 13th from 4:00-7:30 PM.
