Barbara Weldon

Barbara Ann Weldon, 66, of South Hills Drive, Morgantown passed away peacefully with her husband at her side on Saturday, November 9, 2013 due to complications of fronto-temporal dementia (Pick's disease). She was born on May 5, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to John Louis Walton and Velma Helen Walton. She graduated from Mariemont High School in 1965 and from Colorado College in 1969. Upon graduation she married Arthur Weldon, her high school classmate. After marriage they lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for five years. Barbara worked as a teller at Harvard Trust Bank and later in customer service at Polaroid corporate headquarters during the introduction of the SX-70 instant camera. They moved to Mountain View, California, for two years and Barbara worked at Stanford University. From 1976 to 1986 they lived in Ardmore, Pennsylvania and Barbara managed the Philadelphia office of the law firm of Reed, Smith, Shaw, and McClay. In 1986 they moved to Morgantown, where Barbara worked for ten years in private banking at the High Street office of First National Bank, which became Huntington National Bank. She was a loyal supporter of the WVU College of Creative Arts, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera. After her retirement in 1996 she took many courses in art history at WVU and developed a great love for Italian Renaissance art. She and her husband traveled to Italy fifteen times to visit Florence, Rome, and many other locations in Italy. She will be remembered for her generosity and kindness, her love of culture and the arts, and her keen and curious mind. The same dementia led to the death of Barbara's younger sister Kathi Schubert in 2011 and of their mother in 1990. She is survived by her husband, Arthur of Morgantown, her brother-in-law James Schubert of Cincinnati and his two sons Jeffrey Schubert of Cincinnati and Jeremy Schubert of Charleston, South Carolina. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Wednesday, November 13th from 5-8 PM and again on Thursday, November 14th from 1 PM until the time of the funeral service at 2 PM.
