Charles G. Downey Jr.

Charles "JR" Goff Downey, Jr., 53, of Morgantown, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at his home.

JR was born on October 1, 1970, the son of Leslie Downey and the late Charles Downey, Sr.

JR loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed riding motorcycles with his wife and other friends, building and masonry work, going to concerts with his son, spending time with his granddaughter Rory, and watching WVU football games with his buddies. JR was a very loving and caring man who touched the hearts of many. He would give the shirt off his back if needed. Many will miss such a wonderful man, as he was truly one of a kind. A great father, beloved pap-pap, mentor, and friend to many. His laughter and smile will be missed by all.

In addition to his mother Leslie Downey, JR is survived by his loving wife of 27 years Vanessa M. Downey; two daughters Victoria A. Downey and Samantha K. Downey; son, Dylan C. Downey; granddaughter, Rory J. Gillespie; and sister Stephanie F. Louk; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father Charles "Bud" Downey, JR is preceded in death by his good friend Mark Mayfield.

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Wednesday, December 13, from 10:00 am until the time of the Memorial Service at noon with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Interment will follow at Summers Cemetery off Halleck Rd.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to WVU Medicine Cancer Institute, 1 Medical Center Dr. Morgantown, WV 26506.

The family would like to give a special thank you to John and Victoria Moore, the Bennetts, Beth Mayfield, the Sanders, the Casteels and to all the friends and family that came to spend time with him.
