Daniel Edward Dunmire III, 86, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015, peacefully at his home after a short illness. Dan was born in Punxsutawney, Pa. on April 11, 1929, the son of Daniel E. Dunmire, Jr. and Kathleen Lenore Burgun Dunmire. He was a graduate of WVU School of Forestry and a life long member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He was employed by the United States Forest Service until his retirement in 1984. In addition, he was a proud veteran of the United States Army; having served in the Korean War. He was the recipient of three Bronze Stars and was discharged at the rank of Captain. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Harry Burgun Dunmire. He is survived by 2 sisters; Susan Hadley and her husband, Tom; and Sally Buckey and her husband Tom as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his children; Dan Dunmire IV of Philadelphia PA; Erin Dunmire of Morgantown WV; and Judi Dunmire Polak and her husband Mark of Morgantown WV; and 3 granddaughters; Katie, Emily, and Erin Polak. Dan enjoyed jazz music, WVU Football, and family time at the beach each summer. He will especially be remembered for his love of country, family, and friends. Family and friends are welcome to a celebration of Dan’s life on July 7th 2015 from 6p-8p at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street Morgantown, WV. At the request of the family, interment at St. Clair Cemetery in Greensburg, PA with full military honors will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dan’s memory to the Let the Journey Begin Fund c/o Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, P.O. Box 9300, Morgantown, WV26506-9300.
