Daniel Lee Mercer, 63, of Morgantown, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on April 1, 2013. He was born in Wheeling, WV on March 5, 1950, to the late Laura and Lester Mercer. He was active in the union with Thorofare Markets for 11 years. He then worked for Consolidation Coal Company retiring after twenty-Six years from Robinson Run, Local 1501. He was a strong advocate for the United Mine Workers. Daniel enjoyed singing Karaoke, He loved to dance, play cards, softball, golf and basketball. He loved his family and had a wonderful sense of humor. Survivors include three children; Tracey Wyatt of Hagerstown, MD, Daniel Mercer Jr. and spouse Synneve of New Bern, NC, and Joshua Mercer of Morgantown; four grandchildren; Courtney Wyatt of Morgantown, Levi and Noah Wyatt of Kingwood, and Benjamin Mercer of Fairmont; two step children, Isabella Jackson and Oliver Jackson; seven siblings; David and spouse Ann of White House, TX; John Mercer of Wheeling, Paul Mercer and spouse Alice of Holloway, OH; Russell L. Mercer and spouse Karen of Barberton, OH. Sally Pope of Canal Fulton, OH; Mary Jean Gibson of Wheeling, and Judy Sanetrik and spouse Thomas of Moatsville and one step-sister, Michelle Cutlip and spouse David of Morgantown. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his second wife, Darlene Mercer, and one brother, Eugene Mercer Dan's family has honored his wishes for cremation. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 5 at 2PM at Eden Cemetery with a reception and celebration of life to follow at Stewartstown Community Center.
