David S. Phillips

April 1, 1949 — December 24, 2024

David S. Phillips, 75 of Morgantown passed December 24, 2024 at home after a very brief battle with cancer.

He was a retired lab technician with Consolidation Coal at the Indian Creek Rd Lab. Also he was a founder of the annual Gem and Mineral Show in Morgantown, and owner of Sunset Fossils and Minerals. He enjoyed leading and mapping out routes to cycle.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty J Phillips; children, Jason (Tracy) Phillips, Joseph Phillips, Cassandra Phillips all of Morgantown; grandson, Remmington Phillips; brother: Stephen (Elizabeth "Betsy") Phillips, of NC; nephews: Craig Phillips of NC and Nathaniel Phillips of CO.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sterling & Kay Phillips, infant sister, Karen; in-laws, Joseph and Ella Jean Hodge; and 1st wife Bonnie "Keys" Phillips.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation arrangements have been provided. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Monday, December 30th from 2 PM until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 PM with Pastor Todd Hurley officiating.
