David M. Pyecha, 78, of Morgantown, passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at Madison Nursing & Rehab of Morgantown, WV.David was born in Morgantown on February 21, 1932, the son of the late Michael and Hazel (Chipps) Pyecha, and grandson of the late Michael and Julia Pyecha.He graduated from Morgantown High in 1950, and was named All-State in Basketball. David received a basketball scholarship from Davis &Elkins College, but left after one semester to join the U.S. Air Force.He was stationed at Fort Dix, N.J. then assigned to Furstenfieldbruck, Germany where he also played Basketball. His team won the European Championship Tournament and was flown to Orlando,Fl to play in a tournament there. His teammate was renowned Basketball coach Dean Smith of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. Upon his honorable discharge in 1959 David worked for the Orlando Sentinel newspaper. He owned âWoodyâ Landscaping Material. He served as President of the Florida Nurserymans and Growers Assoc. David retired and relocated to Morgantown in 1995, where he was active in many Civic and Community projects, while in good health. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Hope, one son Gary Michael and his wife Lidia and two children Justin and Kayla, a beloved sister Norma Jean DeWitt, nephew David Allen and wife Judy their children Jeffery and Joseph, grandchildren Aidan and Ian Nephew Douglas Bradley DeWitt, One niece Donna Sue Dewitt Special Family Members uncle Peter Pyecha and his aunt Julia Williams, Margaret Gainer, Mary Ball (100 years old), Anna Hado Pyecha, and Joan Page. Along with several CousinsHe was also preceded in death by a twin brother Robert David PyechaFriends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home 153 Spruce St. from 2â" 4 pm and 7-9 pmon Thursday, August 5, 2010. Service will be on Friday, August 6, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Funeral Home.Rev. Dr. John Allen will be officiating Interment will follow in East Oak Grove Cemetery
