Donald Lynch Brand, 93, of Lakeland, FL formerly of Morgantown passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016, at his home. He was born in Morgantown on October 27, 1922, the son of the late Elmer Clyde Brand and Erma (Lynch) Brand. Don graduated from University High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army served as an MP honor guard for the organization of the United Nations in San Francisco. He was a marketer for the Amoco Oil Company. Don was one of the charter members of Cheat Lake VFD and helped build the membership and the building in 1956. He was a hand's on member as well as serving as fire chief and secretary for many years. He and Betty supported generously Cheat Lake United Methodist Church for many years and he helped build the interior of the church in the 1960's. Don and his wife Betty were very active in the community when they lived here. They moved to Florida in the 1970's to be close to their daughter Jane and husband Bill John. He is survived by his daughter, Jane Ann Brand John and spouse, William D. John of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, Scott William John of Taylors, SC., Christopher Brand John and wife Crystal of Lakeland, FL; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Karlee John of SC and David W. John of Lakeland, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jane Adams Brand; an infant son, Charles David Brand; sister, Dortha Louke and brother, Harold Brand. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown on Thursday, February 25th from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, February 26th from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am with Pastor Andrew Burd-Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Cemetery, Cheat Lake. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don's memory to Cheat Lake United Methodist Church, 750 Fairchance Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.
