Dr. Jeffrey E. Cortopassi, Sr., 48, of Cheat Lake, passed on Thursday, August 28th, 2014 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family and friends after fighting a courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Jeff, a son of Robert and Katherine Cortopassi, was born January 7th, 1966 in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from Bethel Park High School in PA, and went on to attend Washington & Jefferson College in PA where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. He later went on to get his Masters Degree at West Virginia University and his terminal degree at University of South Carolina in Analytical Chemistry. He did his post doctorate work at Clark Atlantic University where he met his lovely wife, Phayonie (Fay) Nugent. Jeff had a successful career as a Principal Scientist at Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. His grandparents and uncle preceded him in death. Jeff is survived by his wife of 16 years, Fay; his children, Shana, Storm, Jeffrey Jr, Katrina, Roberto and Angelina; his parents, Robert and Katherine; his siblings, Robert Jr. (Renee Laurie), Glenn (Billie Jo Patton), Cindy (Tim) Pasko and Albert (Sheila Lynn) and many nieces and nephews. Jeff is also survived by his uncle, Edward (Tami Teslovich) Baker and cousin, Jennifer. Visitation will be at St. Luke Catholic Church, 19 Jo Glenn Dr., Morgantown (Cheat Lake) on Tuesday, September 2nd from 4-8 PM and again on Wednesday, September 3rd from 9 AM until the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM with Father Vincent Joseph as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Zion Cemetery, Cheat Lake. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held in the church at 7:30 PM Tuesday to conclude the visitation. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jeff’s memory may be made to the Leukimia Society of America, 333 E Carson St, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 to help in the fight with AML.
