Edward Kean Bird, 51, of Morgantown, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer and passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Saturday, September 10, 2011. Kean was born on November 9, 1959, in Charleston, WV, the son of D. Edward Bird of Charleston and Nancy K. Bird of Morgantown. He graduated from WVU with a B.S. in social work and then continued his education obtaining a masterâs degree in social work, a masterâs degree in public administration, and finally an executive MBA, all from WVU. Kean worked as a social worker and case manager at Ruby Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. Kean greatly enjoyed spending time with his daughter, Alex. He was an avid cycling enthusiast competing in many races with his friends in the cycling community. He will be missed tremendously by family, coworkers, cycling buddies, and friends. His droll sense of humor and heart of gold will not be forgotten. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his beloved daughter, Alexandra and ex-wife, Cassandra Bird both of Morgantown brother, Scott Bird of Houston, TX, sister, Carol Bird of Crownsville, MD, and paternal grandmother, Elaine Bird of Charleston. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Denver H. Bird and his maternal grandparents John Hannon âBuckâ and Myrtle Kessinger. The family would like to give a special thanks to the many doctors and care givers at Ruby Hospital and the Cancer Center. A special thanks to Dr. Manivannan and Dr. Kurian. Friends will be received at Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 308 Elmhurst St., Morgantown, from 6-9pm on Tuesday, September 13, and from 10-11am on Wednesday, September 14. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11am Wednesday. Burial will follow in East Oak Grove Cemetery.
