Edward B. Lopes, 90, of Morgantown passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Sundale Nursing Home.Edward was born in Carmichaels, PA on December 11, 1921, a son of the late John and Blanche Baird Lopes.Ed was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in the invasion of Normandy where he received the distinguished Purple Heart and Bronze Star for saving some of his men. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 165 in Pittsburgh, Pa.Ed was a trivia and history buff, and enjoyed watching game shows. He loved spending time with his dogs, and always had a song to sing. He had a great sense of humor, loved to tell jokes and was a fan of baseball in general.He is survived by his children, Dorothy Lopes of Washington State, Mary Cyphert and husband George of Morgantown, Edward E. Lopes and wife Eyra of Florida and Michael G. Lopes of Pittsburgh, Pa his grandchildren Shawn Thibault and wife Alexis of Washington State, Eddie Lopes and wife Jenn of Florida Michael Lopes of Florida and Andrea Cyphert of Morgantown his great-grandchildren, Chloe Connor and Chelsea Thibault of Washington State.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Irene Lopes.Family and friends will be received at the Chapel of Tranquility Mausoleum located in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Westover on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 9am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00am with Reverend Father Mark Ward, CP VF, officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors being accorded.The family wishes to extend a special thank you for the support of Dee and Bob Elsesser of Pittsburgh.Hastings Funeral Home of Morgantown is in charge of the arrangements.
