Edward Skriner

Edward Skriner, 84, of Morgantown, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2010, at his residence.Edward was born in Campbell, Ohio in1925, the son of the late Thomas Sijak and Christina Evans Sijak Skriner. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Morgantown.Ed graduated from the Rayen School in 1943. During World War II he worked at the Lordstown Ordnance Depot before joining the Navy in Nov. 1943. He married Norma Jean Jones in 1945 after his discharge from the Navy and then went to Youngstown University, Youngstown, Ohio and graduated in 1948, completing his four year degree in two and one half years. He went to work at the City Loan and Saving in Niles, Ohio and also in Ashtabula, Ohio. He resigned his job there to work at the Mahoning Bank in Youngstown. From there he went to Sharon, Pa to start an installment loan department for the McDowell National Bank. After 11 years there, he returned to Youngstown, OH at the Peoples Bank as Vice President in charge of loans. In 1978 he joined the First National Bank in Morgantown as Vice-President of the commercial loan department. He later became president of First National Bank and of First Banc Securities. First National Bank became Huntington Bank and he continued as president until his retirement in December 1992. Ed was very active in the community serving on many boards before and after his retirement. He was a director Huntington Bank Board, a life member of the Salvation Army, a director of the Red Cross local chapter, a director of Pricketts Fort for three term, a director of Mon General Foundation Board, a member of Morgantown Rotary Club, a member of CLIC and had served on the city planning board and the Klingberg Center. He belonged to the American Legion Post 15 in Poland, Ohio.Ed was an excellent golfer and enjoyed sports, especially football.He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma Jean Jones Skriner, a daughter, Nancy Huber of Puyallup, Washington, a sister Mary Tabak of Youngstown, Ohio, a brother, Thomas Sijak of Florida, three granddaughters and a grandson and a great grandson and a daughter-in-law, Christine Skriner.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Dale Skriner, two brothers, and one sister. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Friday, May 7, from 3-6 p.m. Family and friends will be received at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday from Noon to 1p.m. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 1:00p.m.with Rev. John Sonnenday and Rev. Kris Haig officiating. Entombment will be held in the St. Mary's Peace Garden Mausoleum.
