Edwin Norman Hansen

February 16, 1934 — May 7, 2024

Edwin Hansen, 90, of Morgantown, passed away at Harmony of Morgantown on May 7, 2024.

Ed was born February 16, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York, son of Sara Nilsen Hansen and Harry Hansen and brother of Harold Hansen.

He is survived by his son Evan Hansen of Morgantown; son Eric Hansen and wife Madeleine Hansen of Eskilstuna, Sweden; grandson Shelby Reese Hansen of Morgantown; and grandsons Daniel Hansen and David Hansen of Sweden.

Ed enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1954 and was stationed in the Pacific Ocean, earning a Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal.

He earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from City College of New York, a Bachelor of Divinity from New York Theological Seminary, and a Master of Social Work from Fordham University.

Over the course of his career, he worked as an electrician, ordained minister, social worker, real estate agent, and health care center manager.

After retiring, he moved to Morgantown to be close to family, where he watched his grandson's t-ball and soccer games, met his friends for long discussions at the Blue Moose Cafe, continued his spiritual quest through readings and retreats in the United States and abroad, and volunteered to comfort hospice patients. Proud of his Norwegian heritage, he often traveled to Norway when visiting family in Sweden.

A remembrance of his life will be held at a later date.
