Ellen Barnette

Ellen Joyce Hiner Barnette, 72, of Morgantown, went to be with her savior unexpectedly Sunday evening, September 29, 2013 at her residence. She was born in Morgantown on November 6, 1940, a daughter of the late Gay Wayne Hiner and the late Evelyn (Truman) Hiner. Survivors include her three children, Jeff Barnette and his wife Lisa of Core, WV, Lisa Swann and her husband Joe of Arden, NC and Lori Barnette with whom she made her home; six grandchildren, Zachary Barnette, Tyler Barnette, Aaron Barnette, Stephanie Swann, Dean Roberts, and Joey Swann; her great-granddaughter who she always referred to as her "girlfriend," Aaliyah Barnette; one sister, Deborah Costello and her husband Dennis of Ripley, WV. And special nieces, Kimberly Costello-Finn and Natalie Pauley, both of Ripley, WV In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Scott Hiner. Ellen retired after 24 years of service to WVU. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed following everything WV Mountaineers. Her family has honored her wishes for cremation to take place. A graveside service, to be held at the Pisgah Cemetery on Rt. 73 will be announced at a later date. The family encourages all friends, family and former coworkers to come honor Ellen.
