Emil J. Ferrara, 85, of Kingwood Street, Morgantown, passed away Monday, June 22, 2009 at Ruby Memorial Hospital.Emil was born in Morgantown on December 3, 1923, the son of the late Emilio Ferrara and Filomena Purificato Ferrara.Survivors include his sister, Lena Cannon of Auburn, AL, a brother Dr. Richard Ferrara of Gross Pointe, MI as well as 19 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Louis Ferrara and four sisters, Josephine Mantini, Lola Tropea, Dr. Virginia Ferrara and Helen Bryant. Mr. Ferrara was a graduate of Morgantown High School, Class of 1942 and the Ohio State University School of Pharmacy in 1949. From 1942-1945, he was involved with the West Virginia University Army Specialized Program in Pre-Med.He was the longtime owner and operator of Crestholm Pharmacy on Kingwood Street from 1950 to 1999 and was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church.Emil had been retired 10 years. During his lifetime, he was an avid reader and loved history. He also enjoyed classical music, traveling, painting and spending cherished time with family, nature and animals.Family and friends will be received at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, One Guthrie Lane, Morgantown, WV on Monday, June 29 from 9 AM - 11 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated at 11 AM Monday morning in the church with Father Leon Alexander officiating. Interment will be held in East Oak Grove Cemetery, Morgantown.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mountaineer Spay/Neuter Assistance Program, PO Box 4335, Morgantown, WV 26504.
