Frederick Barrett Hetrick, 86, of Madison, Alabama (previously of Milpitas, CA) passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the Madison Hospital.. He was born in Morgantown on December 29, 1929, the son of the late Harold Durell Hetrick and Audrey May (Stansberry) Hetrick. He grew up in Fairmont and Morgantown area. His family was middleclass, childhood uneventful. He told us stories of fun games, loyal pet dogs and a mom who was always home. Fred left home after working as a local pilot to try his hand in the military. He wanted to do more than work in a coal mine or be a train engineer. He loved to fly and every chance he got he took his kids. We grew up thinking the whole world looked like a patchwork quilt. He started as a local skyjock, did a stint in the Army, had his own airport, worked for Boeing in the Vietnam Crisis as the crew chief for Thailands Royal Family for 4 years, and settled in as Civil Servant for the Navy at Almeda in San Francisco until he retired. He is survived by his children; Audrey (Allan) Johnston, Margaret (Jerry) Hughes, Barry Hetrick, and William (Linda) Hetrick; grandchildren, Kelly Jackson, Karen Redmond, Jessica Hughes, Wayne Hughes, Christopher Hetrick and Jasper Hetrick. He also survived by his brother, Harold D. Hetrick. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, So Hi Hetrick and his brother Denny Hetrick. The family has entrusted Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown with arrangements. Private family graveside services will be held at Pisgah Cemetery, Rt. 73, Morgantown.
