Gertrude Amelia Averill, 87, of Morgantown, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Morgantown Health and Rehab Center. She was born November 28, 1933 in Morgantown, a daughter of the late Paul and Gertrude Maude (Dane) Gill. She was a former member of Living By Faith Church and a longtime member of The Order of the Amaranth. She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Averill of Fairview; grandchildren, Kylie Dougherty and her husband Kevin, Lakin Edmond, Alyssa Liston and her husband Zarley, and Nikki Zara; great grandchildren, Emilee Sapp, Addie Liston, and Aliyah Dougherty. She is also survived by several other extended family members. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of many years, John Warren Averill, Jr.; daughter, Janet Edmond; and brother, Paul Thomas Gill. Friends and family will be received at the WV National Cemetery, 42 Veterans Memorial Lane, Grafton, on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 9 AM for a committal service with Evangelist Robert Leedy officiating. In addition, full military funeral rites will also be conducted for her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Amaranth Diabetes Foundation, c/o Stanley Fresno, 13371 Piney Ridge Rd., Huntingdon, PA 16652.
