Harold Gray

October 5, 1929 — December 20, 2010

Harold Edward Gray of Easton finished one journey to begin another on December 20, 2010. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends. A Methodist by faith he was born October 5, 1929, in Guernsey County Ohio, the last surviving child of the late Forest and Sarah Stephen Gray. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the US Army as a combat engineer with the 7th Infantry in Korea, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 121 of Barnesville Ohio.After completing his military service he apprenticed to the plumbing trade under the late Herschel Glenn of New Concord, Ohio. He later owned his own plumbing business in Cambridge Ohio. He was particularly pleased to have served as the superintendent of heating and plumbing on the construction of an addition to the Guernsey Memorial Hospital. He became interested in Cambridge glass which led to his hobby turn second career in the antiques business. He operated an antique shop in Buffalo, Ohio for several years and then moved to Morgantown where he continued to work as an antique dealer for many more years. He traveled throughout WV, PA, Ohio and Maryland where he made many friends in the antique business and was well respected by dealers and clients. Harold is survived by his wife of 32 years, Patty Furman Gray. He is also survived by four children from a previous marriage daughter Linda, Nancy and Dyanne all of Ohio and son Stephen of Florida. In addition to his parents Harold was preceded in death by brothers Donald, William, Kenneth, Lee Roy and Charles as well as sisters Lillie and Viola Gray as children and Evelyn Messenger and Lucille Bayly. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home 153 Spruce St., Morgantown from 4-8p.m. Wednesday, December 22nd. Mr. Gray will be laid to rest in the WV National Cemetery, Pruntytown WV at 1p.m. Thursday, with full military honors with VA Chaplain Jerome Lewis officiating. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in Haroldâs memory to a charity of their choice.
