Herbert Nelson Jacobs

Herbert Nelson “Herb” Jacobs, 76, of Halleck Rd., Morgantown went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Sundale Nursing Home. Herbert was born in Morgantown on April 14, 1939, a son of the late Moses and Amy Elizabeth Jackson Jacobs. Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Rosemarie Taylor Jacobs; his son, Jay N. Jacobs of Lake Charles, LA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Matheny. Herb retired as a Human resources Supervisor after 35 years of service with Allegheny Energy Systems – Ft. Martin Power Station. Whether it be part time while he worked at the power station or full time after his retirement, a big part of his life was spent as a Charolais Beef Cattle farmer. He loved being in the outdoors, hunting deer and elk, and fishing. He was an active member of Goshen Baptist Church – serving as a deacon for several years. He was a US Army Vietnam Veteran, and also served on the Presidential Helicopter Army One as the Crew Chief for President Lyndon Johnson. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Tuesday, May 12th from 4-8 PM and again on Wednesday, May 13th from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Moran Section of the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont, where Full Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Herb’s name may be made to the Goshen Baptist Church, 1070 Goshen Rd., Morgantown, WV 26508.
