Herman Jack "Jackie" Maurer

Herman Jack “Jackie” Maurer, 90, a resident for the last several years of the John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center in Fairmont, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Fairmont Regional Medical Center. He was born in Morgantown on March 21, 1925, a son of the late Herman Joseph Maurer and the late Catherine Jane (Brewer) Maurer. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as his special friends Loretta and Junior, and his many friends and family of the John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers and one sister, making him the last surviving member of his immediate family. Although uneducated, Jackie was a very intelligent man for the obstacles that he had to overcome in his life. He was very steadfast in his beliefs, very fond of his family and made a friend out of everyone he came into contact with. He loved Whitman’s chocolates, Mail Pouch Tobacco, and staying up on all the changes that Morgantown has went through in his lifetime. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV on Tuesday, April 14 from 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM. A procession will leave the funeral home at 11 AM for East Oak Grove Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest in a committal service officiated by Pastor Dan Meadows.
