Homer S. Riffle, 94, of Pinebrook Lane, Morgantown, WV, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Monongalia General Hospital. Homer was born in Braxton County, WV on February 13, 1916, the son of the late Homer A. Riffle and Nancy Elizabeth Ware Riffle. He was a former member of the Woodland United Methodist Church, and attended the Spruce Street United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II serving on the U. S. S. Murphy. Prior to his naval service, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and assisted in the construction of the state park at Coopers Rock. Homer was a plumber, a member of WV Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 152 and was recently honored for 60 years of membership. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Ann Riffle of Morgantown a sister, Dona Ruth Townsend of Fairmont,WV a brother, Warren E. Riffle and his wife, Stella of Jane Lew, WV several nephews and nieces, and a devoted friend and companion Phyllis Garlow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, GeorgeAnna Riffle, and three brothers, Elzie, James and William Riffle. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown on Saturday, July 24 from 2-3PM. A memorial service will be held at 3:00p.m.with Rev. George Koon, Jr. officiating. Inurnment will be held on Monday, July 26 at 10:00a.m at East Oak Grove. Military Honors will be provided by V. F. W. Post 548 and WVANG Military Honors Detail, Camp Dawson, Kingwood .
