Ian Christie

Ian Christie passed away in his home in Morgantown, WV, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. He was born on March 9, 1952, in Edinburgh, Scotland, and later moved with his wife to the United States where he joined the Mathematics Department at WVU in 1983 as a professor, where he retired after 32 years. Throughout his life, he enjoyed coaching his two sons' soccer teams, watching professional soccer, running, playing chess, science fiction, and traveling with his wife and sons back to Scotland every year to visit family and share his upbringing with his American sons. However, his greatest pleasure of all was simply spending time with his family at home. Ian is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Elaine; sons, Gordon (wife: Emma) and Stuart; grandson Gavin; sisters Jean and Irene and their husbands and children. In addition to his parents, Ian is preceded in death by his older brother Brian. A special thank you is extended to all the nurses, doctors, and caregivers that took care of Ian. A memorial service will be held at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Thursday, October 28, at 3:00 pm. Directly following the memorial service, friends and family are invited to the Hotel Morgan, 127 High St, Morgantown, where they can continue to celebrate Ian's life and legacy.
