James Lee Spenik, 57, of Brookhaven Road, Morgantown, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015. James was born March 5, 1958 in Morgantown, the son of the late John and Frances (Austin) Spenik. He was a graduate of Morgantown High School class of 1976. He received his undergraduate degree from WVU in Aerospace engineering and followed that with a Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Mechanical engineering. Upon receiving his doctorate degree he worked for REM Engineering until his passing. James was highly involved with the Democratic Party, actively supporting many local campaigns. He was a member of the Professional Engineering Association, Who’s Who in America and Alumni Associations of MHS and WVU. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Katheryn F. Spenik of Morgantown; aunt Harriet Gidley of Morgantown and her daughter Tammy Walker of Texas. uncle Tom Spenik, uncle Bob Spenik and several cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Leslie and Violet (Hagedorn) Austin, paternal grandparents Michael and Anna Spenik. uncle Marvin Gidley, uncle Tony and aunt Betty Pirlo, uncle and aunt Ray and Nellie Goff, cousin Larry Pirlo. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home 153 Spruce Street Morgantown, on Friday July 31, from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’s memory to ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd St. New York, NY. 10128.
