James Alexander Welch, 87, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012. He was born March 25, 1924 in Versailles, KY, a son of the late William Welch and the late Susie Cook Welch. After serving in the Army in WWII, he completed a BA at the Univ. of Kentucky, then obtained a PhD in Animal Science at the Univ. of Illinois. In 1951 he was hired by the College of Agriculture at WVU, where he taught Animal Husbandry for his whole career, except for 2 ½ years teaching at the Veterinary Training Institute in Entebbe, Uganda (1962-65). His wife, Doris, who he met on a blind date, preceded him in death three years ago. He is survived by his son, Paul a granddaughter, Alix a great-granddaughter, Teya and a sister, Bettie Armstrong. A memorial gathering will be held in the Great Room at Heritage Point on Tuesday, April 3rd, from 6:30 â" 7:30 pm.Hastings Funeral Home of Morgantown is in charge of the arrangements.
