Janice Lee Goodwin, 70, of Westover, passed away peacefully at J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital on Sunday, September 26, 2021. Janice was born in Morgantown, WV, on April 5, 1951, daughter of Wilma Cotille and Irvin Lee Goodwin. She was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church. Janice is a graduate of Morgantown High School and attended West Virginia University, where she earned her B.A., English, M.A. Reading degrees and Graduate Certificate in Public School Administration-Principal Preparation. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority at WVU. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Janice began teaching at Sabraton Junior High School in Morgantown, WV. She enjoyed coaching the cheerleading team at Sabraton, being a guide to their many team awards. Janice's dedication to literacy motivated her to earn an M.A. in Reading. She desired to broaden children's knowledge to improve their lives. Janice strongly believed that knowledge is power. She later worked at South Middle School, Morgantown, WV, as an Assistant Principal. Finally, she returned to her alma mater, Morgantown High School, as an Assistant Principal before retiring from education after 40 years. Being patriotic and civic-minded, Janice served on Westover City Council for over 10 years. Also, she served as a Policy Board Member for the Morgantown Monongalia Metropolitan Planning Organization-MMMPO. Janice is survived by her mother, Wilma C. Goodwin, of Westover, WV; brother, Roger L. Goodwin, and his wife, Lyn, of Hedgesville, WV; and sisters, Brenda L. Goodwin of Boca Raton, FL and Karen L. Goodwin-Barbour and her husband, Connie, of Virginia Beach, VA. She was preceded in death by her father, Irvin Lee Goodwin. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Thursday, September 30, 2021, from 4 – 7 pm and on Friday, October 1, 2021, from 9 am until the time of service at 11 am with Pastor Kevin Cain officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery. The family requests that all guests wear masks and practice social distancing. Flowers of sympathy and remembrance are welcomed to be received at Hastings Funeral Home.
