Jeryl Cecil Root, 77, of Kenton Way, Troy, OH, formerly of Morgantown, went home to be with the Lord on September 9, 2009. He was born March 22, 1932, in Athens, OH, the son of the late Cecil and Hildred Reese Root of Terra Alta, WV. Jeryl was a member of WV Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 152 in Morgantown, and was employed as an HVAC Specialist for Honeywell Corporation. From 1950-53 he served with the 197th Tank Battalion of the WV National Guard. After his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, reading and spending time with his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Troy. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather (and better known as Pa Pa Roo). He is survived by a brother, Richard and wife, Sallie Root of Eutawville, SC a sister, Barbara Root of Terra Alta daughters, Virginia Moore of Columbus, OH and Debby and husband, Steven Lenhart of Troy four grandchildren, Jason Moore of Orlando, FL, Kimberely Moore of Dublin, OH, Brian and wife, Michele Lenhart of Kenosha, WI, and Karrie and husband, David Helton of Newark, DE, three great-grandchildren, Emma Grace, Claire Faith and Aiden Tate Helton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy J. Taylor Root. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St. from 10-12 noon on Tuesday, September 15. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 12 noon Tuesday, with Pastor David Helton and Brian Lenhart officiating. Interment will follow in East Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to oneâs favorite charity.
