Joan Parsons VanVoorhis, 83, of Morgantown, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Golden Living Center.Joan was born in Punxsutawney, PA on February 27, 1929, the daughter of the late Charles Parsons and Myrtle Reid Parsons.She graduated from Morgantown High and attended Chatham College in Pittsburgh. Joan married Morton Edgar VanVoorhis August 31, 1949, and worked for WVU as a dormitory supervisor at Womenâs and Stalnaker Hall. She was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Morgantown Golf and Country Club where she was active on committees such as overseeing the swimming pool and the invitational committee. She was a 50+ year member of First Presbyterian Church in Morgantown. She loved watching sports, especially golf and baseball with her boys and throughout her life. Her favorite activities involved being at her sonâs sports activities. She was there from the first Little League games till the end of her sonâs coaching career. She enjoyed having her granddaughterâs close by and being involved in their activities and lives. She is survived by her sons Rusty VanVoorhis and wife Trudy of Tryon, NC, Lindsay VanVoorhis and wife Gail of Morgantown, and her two granddaughters Erin (VanVoorhis) Burrell and husband Darnell and Adrienne VanVoorhis and boyfriend Jared Blosser of Morgantown, and her three nephews, Dick, Jim and Andy Parsons and their families who were frequent visitors.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Charles âBudâ Parsons, and sister-in-law Georgia Jones Parsons, and her husband of 61 years âMortyâ on January 13, 2011. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Monday, May 7th from 5-8p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday May 8th from 9am until the time of the funeral service at 10am. with Rev. Junius L. Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Taylortown, PA.In lieu of flowers, donations in Joanâs memory may be made to Hospice Care Corp., Golden Living Initiative, 3363 University Avenue, Morgantown, WV 26505.
