John Biess

John Jacob Biess, 83, of Douglas Ave., Morgantown, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at Mapleshire Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Morgantown. He was born in Hamtramck, MI on June 27, 1930, a son of the late John and Marie Biess, but moved shortly thereafter to Riverdale, MD. He graduated from Gonzaga High School in 1948 and the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC in 1952. He then worked as an engineer for the Westinghouse Corporation in Maryland. He was a former member of the Morgantown Kiwanis Club and the former Ten Buck Club. Mr. Biess married Donna Johnson in 1962 at Suncrest United Methodist Church. John, Donna and his two small children then moved to California so that he could work for TRW. They lived there for 43 years, then moved to Morgantown in 2003 to help take care of Donna's mother. He is survived by his wife, Donna Johnson Biess; a daughter, Michelle (Bill Trapman); a son, John L. Biess (Gloria); a granddaughter, Bonnie; and his brother Stanley Biess (Jackie). In addition to his parents, a sister Mary (Matt), and his brother Tony Biess preceded him in death. Family and friends will be received at Suncrest United Methodist Church, 479 Van Voorhis Rd., Morgantown, on Monday, March 3rd from 5-8 PM and again on Tuesday, March 4th from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM with Reverend Tim W. Halloran officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Union Cemetery on Point Marion Rd., Morgantown.
