John Griggs

John Griggs, 73, of Bridgeport, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born August 31, 1940 in Baton Rouge, LA, a son of the late John and Grace Prescott Griggs. John was a member and past president of the Rotary Club of South Fairmont and was also a past president of Master Gardeners of the State of West Virginia. He is a former board member of the United Way of Marion County and remained active throughout his life in supporting the United Way. John is survived by his wife of 24 years, Phyllis Griggs; his children, John Phillip Griggs and his wife Michelle, Wanda Salzer and her husband Jeff, April Shaw and her husband Joe; step daughter, Tanya Pizzolatto; grandchildren, Morgan and Sabrina Griggs, Joshua Salzer, Zachary and Tyler Loveless; brothers, Tommy Griggs and his wife Kathy, Donnie Griggs and his wife Sally, Barry Griggs and his wife June, Ricky Griggs and his wife Diane, and Randall Griggs and his wife Linda. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his step mother, Myrt Griggs and a sister in law, Kim Griggs. In keeping with John's wishes, cremation services have been performed by Hastings Funeral Home in Morgantown. A celebration of John's life will be held at the Valley Falls State Park (near the walking bridge) on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 3:00 pm.
