Dr. Morris Ingle, 85, of Morgantown, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born in Covina, CA on July 28, 1929, the son of the late Luther Mabane Ingle and the late Kate Traywick Ingle; brother of the late Loys Gill. Morri graduated from Covina Union High School. He later went on to receive his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Botany at the University of California, Santa Barbara and Davis. In 1960, Morri finished his education at Purdue University where he received his PhD in Plant Physiology. Morri began his professional career as a Plant Physiologist and Biochemist in 1960 with the United Fruit Company in Honduras and Panama . He then accepted a position as assistant professor in 1963, and in 1972 became full professor of Horticulture and Agricultural Biochemistry and a Horticulturist at West Virginia University. He was a member of Sigma Xi, Gamma Sigma Delta, the American Society of Plant Physiologists, the American Society of Horticultural Sciences, founding member and chairman multiple terms of the Northeastern Tree Fruit Postharvest Physiology Project, and recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award 1982-1983. After retiring in 1997, Morri was given the prestigious title of Professor Emeritus. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marty Ingle; children, Paul Henry and wife Catherine McNair; Kaye Elizabeth and husband Ronald Hutter and their children Rachel Marie and Nicole Jessica; Mark Alan and wife Jamie Williams and their son Jackson Williams; niece Carolyn Gill. We would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and medical staff that provided Morri with exceptional care throughout the years. In keeping with Morri's wishes not to "waste good agricultural land", cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life open house will be held on August 17 at the WVU Erickson Alumni Center, 1 Alumni Drive, Morgantown from 4:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Morri's memory to In Touch and Concerned, 1377 Chaplin Road, Morgantown, WV 26501; or Amedysis Hospice Care, 5006 Mid Atlantic Drive, Morgantown , WV 26508.
