Leonidas W. âBudâ Gibson, 87, of Morgantown passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Monongalia General Hospital.Leonidas was born in Morgantown on August 30, 1922, the son of the late Emerson and Genevieve Warner Gibson.He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He worked most of his adult life in the coal mines and retired from MSHA as a Federal Coal Mine Inspector in December 1986. As a member of Eden United Methodist Church he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee and President of Eden Cemetery Association. Leonidas was also a member of the V.F.W. Post 747, Pt. Marion, Pa. He was an avid bowler and a proud Mountaineer Fan. He also enjoyed summers on the lake boating with his family.Leonidas is survived by his wife Verna Blosser Gibson sons, William Gibson and wife Joan, Charles âChesterâGibson and wife Nancy Carol daughter Carol Davis and husband Donald âDLâ all of Morgantown, brother, Harry Gibson and wife Darlene of Lebanon, Indiana grandchildren, Karen and Jane Gibson, Jessica and Daniel Davis and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Emerson Jr. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown on Wednesday, June 30th from 2-4 and 7-9. Visitation will continue on Thursday, July 1st from 1-2p.m at the Eden United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held in the church at 2:00p.m.with Pastor Wanda Brosky officiating. Burial will follow in the Eden Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the V.F. W. Post 747 Pt. Marion, Pa at the cemetery.
