Maoma Phyllis Neel Stewart, 89, of Goshen Road, Morgantown, passed away Oct. 17, 2011, in her home. Phyllis was born July 4, 1922, in Fairmont, daughter of the late George Roy Neel and Ora Leone Carpenter Neel. She worked for 32 years for the Western Union Telephone and Telegraph Company and retired from the company's Morgantown office as manager in 1972. Subsequently, she worked for Simon's Insurance Agency until her retirement in 1985. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, mother-in-law, great-grandmother and friend. She was kind and generous with everyone she met, always willing to help someone in need, especially her family. Phyllis was a longstanding member of Goshen Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher, assisted with Vacation Bible School, sat on the pulpit committee, and carried out the duties of treasurer of the church for many years. She loved gardening and spent many of her waking hours working in her flower beds and her vegetable garden. She is survived by her two children, Beverly Christine Bromhal of Keyser, and Grant Jarrett Stewart & wife Mary of Morgantown two grandchildren, Grant Stewart Bromhal & wife Lori of Morgantown, and Nicholas Wayne Bromhal II & Holly of Keyser five great-grandchildren, Ivy and Eden Bromhal, Evan Woleslagle, and Olivia and Liam McKenzie a sister, Evelyn C. Neel of Fairmont a brother, Charles D. Neel of Morgantown two half brothers, Franklin Neel & wife Shirley of Fairmont, and John Neel & wife Linda, also of Fairmont and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grant J. Stewart her brother Robert Howard Neel and infant brother, Donald Neel. Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, and from 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, until the 11 a.m. funeral service with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.",254338
