Marguerite Scumaci

Marguerite Catherine Scumaci, 87, of Pawleys Island, SC, formerly of Morgantown passed away Monday, September 6, 2010, at her residence.Marguerite was born in Library, PA on January 14, 1923, the daughter of the late Antonio Antonelli and Sheba Galucci Antonelli Rogers.Marguerite grew up in Ambridge, PA where she and her sisters performed in amateur talent competitions and school productions. She graduated from Ambridge High School where she was the featured vocalist in many productions. She had a beautiful messo-soprano voice and won a scholarship to Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio. World War II intervenened and she graduated from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, PA, now Carnegie-Mellon University in 1945. She moved to Morgantown as a young wife and mother and was made an honorary member of the WVU Italian Womenâs organization, Beta lota. She sang as a soloist in the church choir at St. Teresaâs Roman Catholic Church and many will remember her as singing at their wedding at St. Theresaâs in the 50âs and early 60âs. Marguerite had six children, all attended local schools and West Virginia University. She and her husband, Ralph, a local dentist, were active band parents both at St. Francis de Sales School and at Morgantown High School. She was primarily a homemaker, but she did act as chair assistant in her husbandâs dental practice. Many will remember the Margie and Ralph Show at 253 High Street. Their constant banter entertained their patients and often kept them (the patients) from fearing their appointments. After Ralphâs death in 2005, Marguerite was an active participant in many activities at Heritage Point, the senior living community here in Morgantown. Marguerite moved to Pawleys Island, SC in October 2009, to live near her younger sister, Lois Romano, daughter Carla and son Sam. She enjoyed the warm weather, the creek running behind hers and Loisâs houses, attending Michelleâs dance recitals and visiting the local beach with Carla and Beth. She is survived by her children Maria Scumaci Spencer of McHenry, MD, Carla Louise Scumaci and partner, Beth Dean, Of Pawleys Island, Samuel Joseph Scumaci of Pawleys Island, Sheila Ann Scumaci and Ralph Scumaci, Jr. and wife, Kellie, of Morgantown and Paula Jo Burton and her husband, Darren, of Huntington, her grandchildren, David Paul McClure, Jr. and wife, Sayako, of Palo Alto, CA, Cameron Scumaci Keyes of Nashville, TN, Justin Andrew Scumaci and Taylor Rene Scumaci of Morgantown, and Michelle Dayana Scumaci of Pawleys Island, her great grandchildren Dante Leonardo McClure and Layla Moon McClure of Palo Alto, CA, her sisters, Dolores Antonelli Mihalich of Philadelphia and Lois Antonelli Romano of Pawleys Island.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Scumaci, Sr., and by Ralphâs mother and aunt, Mary Sacco Scumaci and Theresa Sacco Levato.Hastings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Friends will be received at St. Maryâs Catholic Church, Star City, on Saturday, September 11, from 9-11am. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the church at 11am with Fr. John V. DiBacco as Celebrant. Private family inurnment will be held at East Oak Grove Cemetery, Morgantown.
