Mary Antoinette Picarsic

1917 — July 19, 2014

Mary (Donhoffner) Picarsic, 96, of Morgantown, formerly of Jeanette, PA passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born in Export, PA on December 7, 1917, the daughter of the late Emil and Mary (Shevchik) Donhoffner. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Jeanette, PA and attended St. Johns Parish of Morgantown. Mary is survived by her daughter, Chris Martin, former Professor and Dean of the School of Journalism at West Virginia University, a former Vice President of the University, and current President of the Poynter Foundation of St. Petersburg, FL. Additionally she is survived by son-in-law Greg Martin; three grandchildren: Jeffery Martin and wife Glenda of Simpsonville, SC; Christopher Martin and wife Kerry of Holly Springs, NC and John Martin and wife Hui Ming of San Jose, CA. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Thomas Picarsic; her three brothers: Walter, Robert and Rudy Donhoffner; and infant sister Helen Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown Tuesday, July 22 from 5-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Grandview Cemetery, Export, PA on Wednesday, July 23 at 1:00 PM with Father John Peck officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mary's memory to the Thomas Picarsic Scholarship in Journalism at the Reed College of Media West Virginia University, PO Box 6010, Morgantown, WV 26506
