Mary Jo "Mj" Hagner

Mary Jo “MJ” Hagner was born on September 30, 1955 and met our Lord on September 3, 2014. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mary and Andy Adamik, Bill and Josephine Hagner and god daughter Lacey Warner. She is survived by her mother, Irene Hagner; sister, Vicki Hagner; god son, Paul Popernack, and god daughter, Beatriz Popernack; and countless friends and children for whom she cared. MJ was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. She graduated from Washington Hospital School of Nursing then began her 38 year long career at WVU / Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was an angel on earth caring for critically ill children in the pediatric intensive care unit until her illness no longer allowed. As such, her family, friends and patients were her life’s purpose and joy. Words cannot express the limits of her selflessness in everything she did in life. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Friday, September 5th from 6-9 PM and again at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Star City on Saturday, September 6th from 10 AM until the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with Father John V. DiBacco as celebrant. Following the Funeral Mass, Mary Jo’s wishes for cremation will be honored. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8:30 PM Friday evening in the funeral home to conclude the evening visitation. In lieu of flowers, MJ requested the contributions in her memory be made to one of the following charities: Bob Hartley’s Camp Mountain Heart, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Ruby Memorial Hospital, Animal Friends of North Central WV or the American Cancer Society.
