Maudine Mitchell Carney went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 2, 2010, after a brief illness.She was born on November 8, 1922 in Calhoun City, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Zilda Gladney and Robert S. Mitchell.She was a graduate of Houston High School, Mississippi State College for Women, and Marshall University. She enjoyed a career in education for 30 years in Mississippi and West Virginia. She retired as the elementary school principal of Alban Elementary School, St. Albans, WV in Kanawha County. She had resided in Morgantown since 1993.Her participation in several American Baptist churches has been an important source of her joy in life as well as her love and devotion to her family and friends. Her dear husband of 57 years, Ordie D. Carney, native of Wetzel County, WV, preceded her in death on April 22, 2002. Also preceding her were two daughters, Linda Louise Carney and infant daughter Marsha. In addition to her husband, two daughters, and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Bobby, Beckett, and Sidney Mitchell, as well as two sisters, Louise Mitchell and Allene Springer.She is survived by one daughter, Janice S. Ramsey, grand-daughters, Angela Louise Ramsey Chapman and her husband James and Amy Jo Ramsey, and nieces, cousins, and one nephew. She loved them with all her heart.Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Tuesday, January 5 from 4-7pm. She will be moved to Casdorph-Curry Funeral Home, 110 B Street, St. Albans, WV where family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 7 from 11a.m until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend David Kidd officiating. Burial will follow at the Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans, WV.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maudineâs memory to one of the following: Highlawn Baptist Church, 2304 Jefferson Avenue, St. Albans, WV 25177 Hospice Care Corporation, 3363 University Avenue, Morgantown, WV 26505 or Sabraton Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1020, Dellslow, WV 26531.
