Pearl Hartley

January 8, 1915 — September 8, 2011

Pearl Irene Fair Hartley 96, of Fairchance Road, Morgantown, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at the home of her niece Debra and husband, Bob Cyphert. She was born January 8, 1915 in Brooke County, WV the oldest child of Ellis and Ruth (Stansberry) Fair of Bethany, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold H. Hartley. Together they worked the Hartley farm in Hammond Community while finding time for traveling until his death in 1965. She had one child, John H., with whom she lived for a few years before his death in 2008. She was also preceded in death by her sister Ethel (Jeff) Baker of Piedmont and brothers Richard (Helen) Fair of Bethany and Raymond (Jane)Fair of Elkins. While living in Bethany, she was a member of the Bethany Memorial Church (Disciples of Christ) actively involved with the Philathea Class and CWF. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Alexander Campbell Mansion and Historic Bethany by giving tours in period dress. She was a member of Eastern Star having received her OES and 50 year pins. She retired from Bethany College where she worked in the registrarâs office. She also enjoyed activities with the Senior Citizens.She is survived by her sister Lois (Dick) Schulz of Hendersonville, NC. Also surviving are her grandson John D. and wife Kim Hartley and their children Corey, Dakota and Alexandra all of Greensburg, PA. Granddaughter Jill and husband Gary Fetterman live in Las Vegas, NV. Several nieces and nephews will also miss her very much.The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice staff for their competence, compassion and support. A special thank you to âLady Janeâ Lenhart for sharing her amazing gifts of comfort and care. Family and friends will be received at Bethany Memorial Church on Sunday, September 11, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:00p.m. with Rev. Scott Thayer officiating. Burial will follow at West Alexander Cemetery. Hastings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
