Pearl Bailey Mayle, 100, a former resident of Laurel St., Morgantown, passed away at Evergreen Assisted Living on Sunday, August 21, 2011.Born in Mona, WV (Monongalia County) on July 22, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Harry H. Bailey and the late Addie Flowers Bailey.Pearl was a 1929 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Fairmont State College. Over the years, she took many courses from West Virginia University. Her teaching career spanned 43 years in the Monongalia County School System as an Elementary School Teacher, retiring in 1973 from Riverside Elementary, and selected as an Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America in that year.On November 8, 1932, she married William Robert Mayle in Oakland, MD. They resided in Westover before moving to Laurel St. in Suncrest, where they raised their two daughters.She was a member of the Westover United Methodist Church since 1929, and a charter member of the Pines Country Club, where she was an avid golfer for many years. Professionally, she was a member of the National Retired Teachersâ Association, the Monongalia County Retired School Employees, and a life member of the West Virginia Education Association.After her retirement, she became a life member of the Monongalia General Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed volunteering for many years on the information desk, accumulating more than 13,000 hours.Pearl is survived by her daughter, Carol and spouse Barton Loar of Morgantown, a daughter, Mary Kaye Davis of Wilmington, NC a granddaughter, Holly R. Loar of Morgantown a granddaughter, Whitney and spouse Bill Schnorr of Raleigh, NC and three great-grandchildren, Susanna, Ava and William Schnorr. Also, several nieces and nephews survive.In addition to her parents, Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Mayle in 1990 an infant brother, John David and two sisters and their spouses, Edna and Emmett Lynch of Morgantown, and Mary and Howard Bowen of Lancaster, CA.Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Monday, August 22nd from 5:30 â" 7:30 PM, and again on Tuesday, August 23rd from 9:30 AM until the 10 AM funeral service with Rev. Marcy Hile officiating.
